Job Opening for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager
The South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess and maintain state Applicator and Operator licensing for mosquito control.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal pesticide regulations.
- Familiarity with mosquito control practices including ULV adulticide application and various larvicide formulation application.
- Supervisory experience (Seasonal Workers).
- ArcGIS and Sentinel GIS skills.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly as related to training subordinates.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate District’s ArcGIS data management program
- Maintain maps to reflect changes to streets and alleys, and other features essential to operations.
- Maintain regular backups of system data.
- Produce printed maps as needed.
- Keep Director, Operations Superintendent and other SCCMAD staff informed of changes and new developments.
- Coordinate Districts Sentinel GIS data management program:,/li>
- Maintain mapped databases, Storm Drain, Larviciding, and Adulticiding modules to reflect changes to larval production sites, no-spray areas, nature preserves, and other features essential to operations.
- Update employee list as needed.
- Update insecticide list as needed.
- Make changes to treatment attribute tables as needed to reflect appropriate application rates for inventory reports.
- Produce Adulticiding maps and reports the morning after applications by PDF on shared drive.
- Produce other maps and reports as needed either printed or emailed PDF’s.
- Update Sentinel Training Manual as needed.
- Supervise daily activities of seasonal staff:
- Provide regular feedback to Operations Superintendent and Field/Assistant Supervisor and Director regarding evaluation of work performed by seasonal staff.
- Backup to Operations Superintendent in providing daily assignments to, and evaluating daily work of summer field staff.
- Assist in training seasonal staff.
- Field Communication Equipment:
- Manage and monitor field communications equipment. (SCCMAD supplied cell phones).
- Manage and monitor vehicle GIS tracking system.
- Manage and maintain field tablet computers for use with Sentinel.
- Inform Operations Superintendent of field tablet computer maintenance needs.
- Coordinate special projects including: identification and treatment of neglected swimming pools; catch basin control protocol evaluations; survey/mapping of new larval habitats.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
