The South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District (SCCMAD) is seeking talented candidates for the position of Director. The District is a local government agency that surveys and controls mosquitoes, disease vectors and vector-borne diseases in South Cook County, Illinois.

The Director is the chief administrative officer responsible directly, or through delegation, the administration of mosquito and mosquito-borne disease control and surveillance programs; administration of all financial activity’s including budgeting, reporting, compliance, accounts management, and payroll; human resources including hiring, benefits, staff evaluation, management of the District’s assets, buildings, fleet, equipment and preparing, administering, and enforcing the Board of Trustee’s agenda. Manages public relations and communication of District mosquito control operations to the general public and news media. The Director reports to the Board of Trustees and is required to attend and participate in all board meetings.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of local government operations, ability to lead, supervise and evaluate personnel. Thorough knowledge of tactics and equipment used in integrated mosquito management. A thorough understanding of the public health aspects of vector-borne diseases.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Proven managerial experience; preferably a MS or PhD in Entomology or related biological science and/or a minimum of 10 years prior experience in pest management of which some time spent in mosquito control. Possess a valid Applicator License from the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Possess a valid Driver’s License.
